It's true - you do. They help you gain a good Google page rank.

But not just any links

We advise you not to share links with the many sites that will email you suggesting it. Google either does or will penalize both them and you for the privilege.
Instead, create content, publish press releases on external sites, get yourself talked about in forums and blogs, and trade links with a few reputable businesses that you know.
